Hyderabad Election Campaigns Adapt to Sweltering Summer Heat
As the summer heat continues to rise in Hyderabad, the ongoing election campaigns for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are facing significant challenges. With temperatures reaching around 40° Celsius, candidates and party workers are having to adjust their strategies to combat the intense heatwave warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department.
Candidates have been forced to reshuffle their schedules, opting for events like street corner meetings, door-to-door canvassing, and rallies in the cooler evenings instead of campaigning in the scorching afternoon heat. Gathering large crowds during the afternoon has become a real challenge, making the evening hours the prime time for campaigning.
To combat the sweltering conditions, many candidates are focusing on engaging youngsters in the campaigns and providing refreshments such as soft drinks, water bottles, and fruits like watermelon to keep people hydrated. Campaign activities are now primarily limited to early mornings and evenings, aligning with the cooler parts of the day.
Party workers have been seen using scarves, hats, and umbrellas to shield themselves from the sun, while others seek shelter under the shade of trees during campaigns. Campaign budgets are being allocated towards providing refreshments for attendees, with parties like the Congress focusing on cost management to support participants.
The BJP has also adapted its campaign strategies, organising events in the morning and night to avoid the peak heat hours. Ambulances are on standby to handle potential heat strokes during campaigns, and charitable organisations are offering water sachets to those participating.
Medical officials are advising parties to follow guidelines for the safety of everyone involved in the campaigns. With the heatwave posing challenges for candidates and party workers, it is crucial for them to prioritize the well-being of all those involved in the election process.
