BJP chief Nadda receives notice from Election Commission over complaints of model code violation by PM Modi

Election Commission of India Issues Notice to BJP and Congress Presidents for Violation of Model Code of Conduct

The Election Commission of India has taken action against both the BJP and Congress party presidents, J.P. Nadda and Mallikarjun Kharge, respectively, over complaints of violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The ECI has issued notices to both parties seeking their response by April 29.

The notices come in response to complaints made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi. While the letters from the EC did not directly name the leaders, the representations attached to the letters contained details of the allegations against them.

The ECI has invoked Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act, holding the party presidents responsible for reigning in their star campaigners. The ECI emphasized the importance of maintaining a higher quality of discourse and ensuring that campaign speeches adhere to a higher threshold of compliance.

The ECI will be examining the complaint against Prime Minister Modi’s speech at a rally in Rajasthan, where he allegedly made divisive remarks about the Congress party. In response, the BJP has also filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi for his comments against Modi during a speech in Tamil Nadu.

This development highlights the ongoing scrutiny of political leaders’ speeches during election campaigns and the ECI’s efforts to ensure fair and ethical campaigning practices. Stay tuned for further updates on this story.
