Nexstar’s NewsNation Names Cherie Grzech as President and Managing Editor of News and Politics
NewsNation, the cable channel launched in 2020 as an alternative to politically opinionated news networks, has announced a new leadership shake-up. Cherie Grzech, a longtime Washington executive for Fox News, has been named president and managing editor of news and politics for NewsNation. Grzech will oversee news coverage and political programming, including a Washington-based Sunday roundtable show.
Michael Corn, who has been NewsNation’s top editorial executive since May 2021, will transition to a new role overseeing prime-time programs and specials. Corn will move from Chicago to New York full time, where programs with anchors Chris Cuomo, Dan Abrams, and Elizabeth Vargas are based. He will take on the title of president of programming and specials.
Both Grzech and Corn have signed new multiyear contracts and will report to Sean Compton, president of Nexstar’s network division. This leadership change marks the second shake-up at NewsNation since its launch, with the channel aiming to provide a balanced alternative to CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC.
Despite adding opinion-driven programs to attract viewers, NewsNation has been cited as being in the political “middle” by Ad Fontes Media. While the network has been gaining viewers since its launch, it still lags behind established cable news competitors in the Nielsen ratings. However, Nexstar has maintained that the operation is profitable.
NewsNation recently hosted its first presidential primary debate last December, featuring Republican candidates in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. With Grzech and Corn at the helm, the channel continues to strive for balanced news coverage and political programming in a competitive media landscape.
