Political parties in Bihar entice voters living in Nepal to come home and vote for them

“Political Parties Target Bihar Origin Voters in Nepal for Elections”

The value of each vote is well recognized by political parties, especially in Bihar, where they go to great lengths to reach every voter for support in elections. This outreach extends beyond just the constituencies they are contesting in, as parties also target voters living across the India-Nepal border.

With around three lakh people of Bihar origin residing in Nepal, a significant number still hold Indian citizenship and are eligible to vote in Bihar elections. The state has 10 Lok Sabha constituencies bordering Nepal, and parties make efforts to persuade these voters to return home and cast their votes.

For many voters living abroad, elections are a festive occasion that allows them to visit their hometowns, meet relatives, and exercise their voting rights. The border areas witness a fair-like atmosphere during elections, as people gather in large numbers to participate in the democratic process.

While some voters in Nepal are enticed by local representatives of candidates to return home and vote, others see elections as an opportunity to reconnect with their roots and celebrate the occasion like a festival. The international border is sealed 72 hours before polling, as per Election Commission guidelines, prompting voters to plan their return in advance.

Overall, the engagement of voters across borders highlights the significance of each vote in the democratic process, as political parties strive to secure support from every eligible voter in Bihar.
