Visakhapatnam Braces for Record Campaign Expenditures Ahead of Elections
The upcoming elections in Andhra Pradesh are set to break all records when it comes to campaign expenditures. Candidates from major parties are gearing up to spend unprecedented amounts of money in a bid to secure victory in the polls.
In Visakhapatnam, one of the high-profile constituencies, candidates are expected to spend over Rs 100 crore each on their campaigns. One candidate has even started distributing freebies like sweet boxes and sarees during festive occasions to woo voters.
The trend of high spending is not limited to Visakhapatnam alone. In other premier Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies like Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Nellore, Guntur, and Kadapa, candidates are also expected to splurge record amounts this election season.
MP candidates are allocating a significant portion of their campaign funds to support MLA candidates in their constituencies. Sources within political circles suggest that an MP hopeful may need to spend an average of Rs 50-80 crore in total, with a substantial amount going towards supporting MLA candidates.
Social media spending has also seen a surge, with parties investing heavily in various social media handles for campaigning purposes. Candidates are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to reach out to voters and highlight their agendas.
Despite the Election Commission of India’s regulations capping campaign expenditures, candidates are exceeding these limits by at least 10 times, underscoring the high stakes involved in the elections. As the decisive day of the election draws near, the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh is set for a whirlwind of spending and campaigning activities.
