“Gloucester High School’s ‘Smart Cookie Bakery’ Implements Marketing Strategies to Boost Business”
The Gloucester High School Life Skills Program is making waves with their student-run business, “Smart Cookie Bakery,” as they implement new marketing strategies to increase sales. Led by special education teacher Cher Gingues, the students are learning valuable vocational and academic skills that align with Virginia Standards of Learning.
One of the innovative marketing strategies the students came up with was reaching out to the local newspaper, the Gazette-Journal, to feature their bakery in an article. This not only helps promote their business but also gives the students real-world experience in marketing and public relations.
The bakery provides students with hands-on learning opportunities, such as counting money, giving change, problem-solving, following directions, and staying organized. With the guidance of Gingues and paraprofessional Kristin Colwell, the students are gaining valuable skills that will benefit them in the future.
Each shift of students has specific responsibilities to ensure the smooth operation of the cookie business. From delivering cookies to managing daily operations, the students are gaining practical experience in running a business.
The “Smart Cookie Bakery” is not only a place for students to learn and grow but also a delicious destination for cookie lovers in the community. With their new marketing strategies in place, the bakery is sure to see an increase in sales and success in the future.
