Airbnb’s New Campaign: Sleep in a Paris Museum, Stay in a Movie Set, or Surround Yourself with Ferraris
Airbnb is taking its rental experience to a whole new level with its latest campaign, offering customers the chance to stay in some truly unique and extravagant locations. From spending a night in a Paris museum to sleeping surrounded by Ferrari racing cars, the short-term rental giant is pulling out all the stops to showcase itself as a company that sells experiences, not just accommodations.
CEO Brian Chesky unveiled the 11 temporary listings, dubbed “icons,” at an event in Los Angeles. The idea for this publicity stunt came after the success of a Barbie-themed house in Malibu last year, tied to a popular movie about the iconic doll. The key to the campaign? Linking promotions to pop culture, celebrities, or events, and above all, not being boring.
Unlike typical Airbnb listings, these “icons” are being practically given away. Interested customers can apply to win a stay at one of the unique properties by filling out a profile and explaining why they want to experience it. Approximately 4,000 winners will be chosen throughout the year, with prices for the experiences set at under $100 or even free.
Some of the standout opportunities include an overnight stay at the Musee d’Orsay in Paris, where guests will have the entire museum to themselves and a prime view of the Olympics opening ceremony. In the U.S., a house in New Mexico modeled after the one from the movie “Up” will be available, complete with 8,000 balloons attached to mimic the flying house from the film.
Other one-time events include a sleepover at the Ferrari Museum in Italy, a living room performance by rapper Doja Cat, and an evening with comedian Kevin Hart in his exclusive lounge. The campaign also features properties inspired by popular culture, such as the mansion in New York designed to look like the one from “X-Men” comics and Prince’s Minneapolis house from the film “Purple Rain.”
With a profitable year behind them, Airbnb is investing in these extravagant experiences to showcase their vision and imagination. Chesky hinted that this is just the beginning, with more unique listings in the works for the future. Stay tuned for more exciting opportunities to step into the world of Airbnb like never before.
