Americans More Worried About Political Extremism and Threats to Democracy Than Any Other Issue: Reuters/Ipsos Poll

Americans are more concerned about political extremism and threats to democracy than any other issue, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll. The poll, which closed on Sunday, revealed that 21% of respondents believe political extremism is the biggest problem facing the country, with the economy and immigration following closely behind.

The worry about political extremism is particularly strong among Democrats and independents, with 44% of Democrats and 13% of Republicans citing it as the top issue. This divide is further highlighted by the fact that 34% of respondents believe President Biden has a better approach to handling extremism, compared to 31% who prefer former President Trump’s approach.

The poll also noted Trump’s ongoing criticism of U.S. institutions and his refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election. Despite facing multiple criminal prosecutions, Trump maintains his innocence and claims the charges are politically motivated.

While Biden’s approval rating has dipped slightly to 37%, the poll suggests that his support is largely driven by opposition to Trump. The divide between Democrats and Republicans is stark, with 90% of Democrats approving of Biden’s performance compared to only 10% of Republicans.

This new poll sheds light on the deepening political divide in the country and the growing concern over political extremism. With the 2022 midterm elections approaching, it remains to be seen how these issues will impact the political landscape in the months to come.
